At
Királyudvar, we apply a natural balanced approach in our interactions with
nature. Our viticulture program implements fundamental practices of double cordon
vine training, short spur pruning, early cane selection on each vine, yield reduction
through green harvesting and select late harvesting across all of our estate-owned
vineyards. In this environment, the vines are able to work at their optimal energy
levels to consistently produce high-quality berries. Our early experiments that
involved reducing yields to extreme levels on each vine found only limited success.
When a natural balance was restored by increasing yields responsibly, these vines
responded positively producing healthier fruit with concentrated flavors. In
our continued efforts to nurture our vines and protect the integrity of our fields,
we avoid the use of fertilizers and prohibit any use of systemic chemicals. The
effect of this choice supports a sustainable approach to viticulture. By depriving
the soil of unnatural richness and keeping the vines free from chemical toxins,
we allow their roots to reach greater depths in search of nutrients, physically
and biologically stabilizing the plants.
