Size: 4 hectares
Location: Mád, Tokaj
Soil Type: Red Clay, Quartz Tuff
Grape Varietals: Furmint
Dating back to pre-WWII when
it belonged to the Piarist monastery, this ten-acre vineyard is
planted on the quiet Percze hill directly overlooking the village
of Mád. Atop the hill, the unforgettable panoramic vista to the
south is accentuated by a colorful orchard bearing abundant quantities
of cherries, pears and a variety of wild nuts.
Rich in minerals transported
up to the surface by a hot geyser back when this volcanic hill was
active, Percze displays its versatility as a primary source of berries
used in the company's dry Sec as well as in its creamy, sweet dessert
wines. The uniqueness of the Percze terroir adds a vibrant floral
and fruity character, profound complexity and grace to the Királyudvar
estate wines.
"Percze rarely sees autumn
frost. The vineyard consistently provides fully ripened grapes without
the effects of early seasonal botrytis. As nature would have it,
Percze provides the balanced precision along with the necessary
substance to anchor our Sec wine." - Anthony Hwang, proprietor
