Királyudvar controls the entire
spine of Nyúlászó, which rests at the western end of a chain of
hills located along the outskirts of the village of Mád. Naturally
protected by its surrounding forests against the northern winds,
the basin retains higher humidity and stores more heat than the
surrounding areas during the growing season. A gentle creek that
traverses the vineyard helps direct the October fog into the basin.
Along the spine, the well-drained
soil retains little water which helps stress the vines in a healthy
manner. Years of erosion have left behind a high concentration of
minerals in the coarse soil from volcanic activity that occurred
millions of years ago. The resulting smaller berries contain a higher
concentration of fruit flavor and a spectrum of finer acids when
compared to berries grown in heavier clay soil. A distinctly elegant
and aristocratic feel emerges from the Nyúlászó terroir.
